Combating Human Trafficking
The Center for Lifelong Learning, Tata Institute of Social Sciences jointly organized a National-level Training programme on ‘Combating Human Trafficking’ from 19th-23rd Dec 2022 with Research, Advocacy, Capacity Building against Exploitation Lab (RACE Lab), Samvedna, Bhopal.
The programme was organized at the Mumbai Campus and saw the participation of experts, NGOs, academics, and journalists from across the country. The workshop was aimed at deepening and inspiring the understanding of human trafficking through intersectional analysis and beyond the lens of gender-based violence while locating anti-trafficking work as a part of a global movement.
The panel of speakers offered a comprehensive overview of the topic and had representation from experts and field workers from NGOs, government, law enforcement agencies, entrepreneurs, and other organisations. Shri Ahmed Javed (IPS), the Chief Guest, presented his experiences on the topic and emphasised the importance of raising awareness at all levels, including key stakeholders. The need for collaboration across individuals and organisations, as well as the disadvantages of working in silos, was emphasised by him. Dr. Veerendra Mishra (IPS), a prominent speaker over the five days, guided attendees through the complexities of human trafficking through his experiences in the field.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the magnitude of the crime that is growing both domestically and internationally. They got new insights and perspectives to look at human trafficking as a social problem which needs new ways of intervention.
